The German Aerospace Center (DLR) was glad to host the 5th SOLLAB Doctoral Colloquium in Cologne, Germany
from 22nd till 24th June 2009.

The SOLLAB Doctoral Colloquium unifies doctoral students of five leading European laboratories in the field of science and a wide range of technologies concerning concentrated solar energy applications. The forum is dedicated to the exchange of knowledge and the development of new research activities. It serves as a platform for discussion, improvement and coordination of future projects.

DLR has its headquarters in Cologne. The solar research division is part of the Institute of Technical Thermodynamics, which is one of DLR's 32 research institutes. About 60 solar researchers work in the fields of high temperature systems, qualification, application or solar chemistry. In September 2009, DLR will also host the SolarPACES conference, the world's foremost scientific forum dedicated to concentrating solar power plants.

Cologne is the fourth-largest city in Germany and is one of the major European metropolitan areas with more than ten million inhabitants. It is one of the oldest cities in Germany. It was founded by the Romans in the year 38 BC and granted the status of a 'Roman city' in 50 AD. Cologne lies on the River Rhine.
